Ezhava is one of the biggest castes in Kerala. The name has historically used to refer to people who were involved in a variety of jobs. They were considered belonging to the lowermost strata of the Hindu caste system. There are numerous Ezhava families residing in the area who are the followers of Sree Narayana Guru, a 20th century religious reformer and saint, who was one of the pioneers of the anti-caste struggle in Kerala.
